Ex-girlfriend reveals sweet words Jeremy Clarkson said before he got together with Lisa Hogan

Jeremy Clarkson’s former girlfriend Phillipa Sage has opened up about their seven-year relationship — and claims the TV star once told her they were “meant to be together” shortly before he began dating his current partner, Lisa Hogan.

The 62-year-old Top Gear presenter has been in a relationship with Lisa, an Irish-born actress and model, since 2017. But according to Phillipa, who worked alongside Clarkson during his Top Gear Live days, their relationship ended under painful and confusing circumstances.

Phillipa, 52, met Clarkson while employed as his personal assistant, “goffer and fixer” during the motoring show’s globe-trotting live tours. The pair grew close during filming and embarked on a romance that lasted nearly a decade before ending in 2017.

Speaking to Mail Online, Phillipa recalled how Clarkson once declared his deep affection for her — just days before he was publicly seen with another woman.

“He’d actually told me, ‘I was born for you,’” she said. “He’d asked me to stay the night only a few days before he was out with Lisa.”

Phillipa said she was stunned when a friend showed her a photograph of Clarkson with a “tall, blonde woman” — now known to be Lisa Hogan.

“I thought, ‘Oh yes, she’s definitely his type,’” she admitted. “Taller, skinnier, younger — the perfect upgrade. I was furious. I thought, ‘What are you doing when we’re supposed to be working things out?’”

When she confronted Clarkson, he reportedly told her to “calm down,” insisting Lisa was “just a friend.” But according to Phillipa, just weeks later, he revealed that he wanted to be with Hogan instead.

The split left Phillipa heartbroken. She has since spoken openly about the emotional aftermath, revealing that she turned to therapy to help her rebuild her confidence and sense of self.

“It took me a long time to move on,” she admitted. “I had six years of therapy — it absolutely saved me.”

Despite the end of their relationship, Phillipa says Clarkson still occasionally reaches out on her birthday — though she now ignores his messages.

“He still tries to contact me on my birthdays,” she said. “But I’ve blocked his number. There’s no point revisiting the past.”

Phillipa also shared her surprise at the success of Clarkson’s Amazon Prime series Clarkson’s Farm, which follows the former Top Gear host as he attempts to manage his Oxfordshire property, Diddly Squat Farm, alongside young farmer Kaleb Cooper.

“I’m shocked at what he’s done with it,” she confessed. “I thought he wanted his private life to stay private. He used to say he wanted peace and quiet.”

Phillipa claims Clarkson had once floated the idea of her running a small farm shop as part of the Diddly Squat project — but not as the commercial empire it’s since become.

“He talked about me running the shop — something like a mini Daylesford,” she said. “But it was supposed to be a sweet little vegetable barn, not this big public enterprise. I just don’t get it.”

Since its launch, Clarkson’s Farm has become one of Amazon Prime’s most successful original series, earning praise from viewers and critics alike for its mix of humour, hardship, and heart.

For Phillipa, however, the show serves as a bittersweet reminder of a past life.

“I’m happy he’s found success,” she said. “But I’ll always remember the man behind the cameras — the one who told me we were meant to be.”
