BATTLE SCARS: ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ Breakout Harriet Cowan Details Grueling Hand Injuries
In the world of high-stakes farming, the line between a successful day’s work and a trip to the emergency room is often razor-thin. Harriet Cowan, the 24-year-old breakout star from the latest season of Clarkson’s Farm, has officially opened up about the “nasty accident” that left her short of a fingernail—and a piece of her finger.
Cowan, a native of Derbyshire who quickly became a fan favorite after standing in for Kaleb Cooper during his national tour, revealed the graphic details of an encounter with a log splitter that went sideways earlier this year.
A Run-In with the Splitter
The incident, which occurred back in February just as the grueling lambing season was set to begin, saw Cowan rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Speaking with The Times this Wednesday, April 15, Cowan clarified the mechanics of the injury that had previously left fans concerned on social media.
“I had a nastyish accident earlier this year: a log fell out of the log splitter and landed on my finger, taking the top off,” Cowan explained. The injury was severe enough to require the expertise of the Pulvertaft Hand Clinic, where surgeons worked to stitch the digit back together.

While the surgery was a success, the cosmetic toll is permanent. “I won’t have a real nail on there,” Cowan admitted, before adding with a touch of farm-hardened grit: “But I haven’t got one on the finger next to it either. A sheep pulled it off.”
The “Kaleb” Proxy
Cowan’s rise to prominence came during the fourth season of the hit Prime Video series. With Kaleb Cooper busy performing for live audiences, Jeremy Clarkson found himself in need of a capable right hand who could tolerate both the Oxfordshire mud and his own unique brand of agricultural “management.”
Cowan filled the role with a mix of competence and no-nonsense charm that resonated with viewers. Though she departed midway through the series once Cooper returned to Diddly Squat, her impact was significant enough to spark calls for her permanent return.
Diddly Squat Prepares for Series Five
The news of Cowan’s recovery comes as anticipation reaches a fever pitch for the return of Clarkson’s Farm. Series five is officially scheduled to premiere on Prime Video next month, following a production cycle that wrapped in September 2025.

While Jeremy Clarkson has yet to comment on Cowan’s recent injuries, the show has never shied away from the physical dangers of farm life—from Kaleb’s near-misses with heavy machinery to Clarkson’s own myriad of self-inflicted mishaps.
As Cowan prepares for another season of lambing in Derbyshire, her story serves as a stark reminder to the show’s millions of viewers: behind the humor and the scenic Cotswold views, the reality of British farming is often written in blood and bone.
