Inside Jeremy Clarkson’s short-lived first marriage as ex-wife admitted ‘I still love him’

Jeremy Clarkson recently marked his nine year anniversary with his partner Lisa Hogan. The Clarkson’s Farm star, 65, and the former actress, 51, are in a committed relationship, with the pair beginning their romance back in 2017. But the Top Gear star was married twice before, with his second marriage lasting over two decades but the first just one year.

Jeremy tied the knot with Alexandra James back in 1989 but their marriage collapsed just months after their ill-fated wedding. James – who now goes by the surname Hall – first met the car enthusiast when she was 17-years-old and he was 19.

The young couple shared a flat together and it wasn’t until seven years later the pair would tie the knot. However, their union was short-lived and they parted ways after less than two years together with their divorce coming the following year in 1990.

They called time on their marriage and Alex began dating one of the presenter’s wedding guests.

She previously opened up about separating from Jeremy for his friend Stephen Hall but said she later realised it was “a mistake” in an unearthed interview.

In an ITV1 interview with Adrian Chiles in 2011, she said: “Four months after I left him I realised I’d made a mistake and it’s had a huge impact on my life and has affected me hugely for the rest of my life.

“I still love Jeremy.”

At the time, Jeremy said in a newspaper column, wrote: “This is the background. In 1990, after six months of marriage, she left me for another man.”

Alex went on to wed Stephen in 1993 with the couple having two children together. Her second marriage later ended in 2001.

Jeremy went on to marry second wife Frances “Francie” Cain in 1993, who was also his manager.

The former couple had three children together during their marriage but later divorced in 2014.
