The 24-Hour Itch: Marty Lagina Reveals Alex’s Relentless Drive to Return to Work Post-Hospitalization
It appears that the legendary “Lagina stubbornness” is alive and well in the next generation. Just twenty-four hours after being officially discharged from a Michigan recovery center following a high-altitude collapse on the Templar Trail, Alex Lagina is reportedly already trying to negotiate his way back into the “War Room.”
In an exclusive video update shared with the Fellowship today, a weary but smiling Marty Lagina revealed that his son didn’t even wait for the hospital wristband to be removed before he began asking for the latest data from the Garden Shaft and the swamp.
“He Didn’t Even Let the Coffee Get Cold”
Marty, speaking from the family office in Traverse City, described the scene that played out just one day after Alex returned home. While the family had prepared a guest room for Alex to undergo a week of bed rest and “digital detox,” the young explorer had other plans.
“I walked into the kitchen on Wednesday morning, thinking I’d find Alex resting or perhaps watching a movie,” Marty laughed, shaking his head. “Instead, I find him sitting at the table, two laptops open, three tablets spread out, and a mountain of Lidar scans from our latest drone flight over the swamp. He didn’t even let the coffee get cold before he was back to work. I told him, ‘Alex, you were in a hospital bed 24 hours ago,’ and he just looked at me and said, ‘Dad, the gold isn’t going to find itself while I’m napping.'”
According to Marty, Alex’s primary focus isn’t just the treasure, but the momentum the team has built during the early 2026 season. Alex is reportedly convinced that the “meaningful path” they discovered recently is the key to the entire mystery, and he is terrified of missing a single second of the excavation.
The “Battle” for the Tablet
The transition from patient back to project lead hasn’t been without its domestic friction. Marty revealed that he and Rick have had to play “bad cop” to ensure Alex doesn’t overexert himself and trigger a relapse of the systemic exhaustion that sidelined him in Europe.

“Rick and I actually had to have a formal intervention,” Marty admitted. “We’ve had to implement a ‘two-hour cap’ on his screen time. If we catch him on the Oak Island servers after 8:00 PM, we’re changing the Wi-Fi password. It sounds like we’re treating him like a teenager again, but when you have that much drive, you need someone to pull the emergency brake for you.”
Despite the restrictions, Alex has been “clandestinely” messaging Mitch Blaschke and Gary Drayton to get “boot-on-the-ground” updates. Gary reportedly told Marty that Alex is “champing at the bit” to get back to the island for the next big metal-detecting sweep.
A Boost for the 2026 Season
While his family is focused on his health, the production team for The Curse of Oak Island is energized by Alex’s enthusiasm. His quick bounce-back is seen as a major morale booster for the crew, who were deeply shaken by his collapse on the Templar Trail.
Alex’s role as the “technological bridge” of the team—managing the complex mapping software and sub-surface imaging—is critical for the upcoming de-watering of the swamp. His eagerness to return suggests that the data he was reviewing before his collapse might be even more significant than the show has let on.
Looking Toward Next Week
As of now, the plan remains for Alex to stay in Michigan for a few more days of “active recovery.” However, Marty conceded that the “stay-at-home” order is likely to be ignored.

“He’s already booked a flight for Tuesday,” Marty revealed. “I told him he should wait until Friday, but he’s already packed his bags. The kid has a fire in him that you can’t put out. We’re just going to have to make sure there’s a chair waiting for him in the War Room so he can lead the team without having to stand up too much.”
With Alex Lagina’s return imminent, the search for the Oak Island treasure is about to regain its most analytical mind. The 2026 season is proving that while the island may be cursed, the Laginas are simply too determined to let it stop them.
